Correct Weight

Correct Weight

After the race, the results aren't official and no bets are paid out until "correct weight" has been declared.

Correct weight means two things.

Firstly, it signifies that the placegetting jockeys have stood on some scales, and a steward has made sure that they don't weigh less than the weight they had been listed to ride at.

Secondly, it confirms that no rider has lodged a protest against another rider, that could change the result.

An overwhelming majority of the time, there is correct weight.

"I wouldn't be cheering too hard mate. There was interference around the home turn. Wait for correct weight before you start spending your winnings."
