One of the pet hates of the punter is a butchered ride.
This is when the jockey gives the horse no chance whatsoever to win the race, usually because he is sitting out three wide no cover the trip, or because he has the horse pinned against the rail without the opportunity of clear running room.
"That jockey will be leaving the course in a hurry after he butchered the ride on the favourite."
