Saturday’s racing at Flemington and Randwick presents an intriguing challenge for punters, with both tracks facing unpredictable weather conditions.
Flemington is expected to race on a Good track, though there is a slight chance of light rain, with a top of 18 degrees forecasted.
The rail is in the True position, moving from 9m at the last meeting where the track played fairly with no evident bias.
The straight races saw horses use most of the track, but nothing ventured extremely wide.
Randwick is also facing an uncertain forecast, with 10-20mm of rain predicted on Friday but high temperatures of 30 degrees, which could see the track remain in the Good-Soft range.
On Saturday, the rail moves out to 4m, which should make for competitive racing.
At the last meeting, horses tended to avoid the inside rail as the day progressed, so keeping an eye on how the track plays will be crucial.
Bet of the Day – Flemington
Race 10, No.9 - SUNSHINEINMYPOCKET
Produced a dominant win fresh when charging home from the rear on a day when very few runners were able to swoop.
That performance was even more impressive considering he was returning from a long spell.
With added fitness, the step up to 1400m is ideal, and he maps perfectly from barrier 1.
His only career defeat came in the Bendigo Guineas, where he ran well but was unlucky in a high-quality race.
Bet of the Day – Randwick
Race 5, No.5 - JOLIESTAR
Resumes after an outstanding first-up win last preparation, where she smashed the clock and ran exceptional time.
She has looked sharp in her lead-up trials, and this classy filly should prove very hard to beat.
Expect her to be strong late with a big finish.
