Standout stayers
Randwick hosts Day 2 of The Championships on Saturday, with another bumper card of four Group 1 events scheduled for the afternoon.
In the Australian Oaks, I am with a front running filly who looks to get all the favours out in front and can hold on late.
Whilst in the Sydney Cup, I have found one who is flying this preparation and was the subject of an interesting in-play betting plunge recently. She could be smashed late here in betting.
Track Conditions
The Randwick surface is currently rated a Soft 5, with the rail out 3m for the entire circuit.
There is a chance of showers in Sydney on Friday and Saturday, however the rainfall is expected to be light.
Expect the track to improve given the excellent drainage at Randwick, and we could see a Good rating come race day provided the showers are in fact light.
As always, refer to the early races for a good guide on track bias.
Randwick Race 5 - Australian Oaks 2400m (G1 3YOF SW)
The Map
There looks to be a lack of tempo here, with Harmony Rose (5) the most likely to roll forward and lead as she likes!
Expect Sassysav (2) to use her gate and kick up to race close, and Amarelinha (7) can also come across to race handy.
The back-marker profiles of Impecunious (9) and Bargain (1) will both be hoping for some tempo up front, to allow them to run on.
The Favourite
Harmony Rose ($3.50) looks set to get an absolute dream run out in front with no pressure, and it will take a good one to run past her if they crawl.
She just got nabbed (2 of 10) right on the line last start in the Group 1 Vinery at Rosehill, where she led and showed good fight.
It is hard to make a case against her.
Best Racing Tips
Harmony Rose was very brave last time out when being run down in the shadows of the post at Rosehill.
She is likely to receive the softest of runs with little pressure around her throughout, and just needs to hold form to be winning.
Hungry Heart ran down Harmony Rose last start to win the Vinery, and must be considered a genuine winning hope again here.
She has a good turn of foot and just needs to stay the 2400m to be in the finish.
Duais is the emerging star who has worked through the grades at a rapid rate and now arrives for her stiffest test to date. She could be the forgotten horse here and brings a different form-line to the top two in betting, coming via the Adrian Knox Stakes.
Hugh Bowman will be desperate to win this for his good mate Edward Cummings and he can easily cause an upset.
Include Amarelinha for wider bet types, as she has the NZ "X-factor" having been very dominant in her past few runs across "the dutch".
The stable are as shifty as they come, and know the right horse to bring. Watch betting closely.
1st Harmony Rose
2nd Hungry Heart
3rd Duais
4th Amareliha
Randwick Race 7 - Sydney Cup 3200m (G1 Hcp)
The Map
Expect a genuine tempo here, with Hush Writer (15) and Quick Thinker (14) the two most likely to roll forward and set a good speed.
Sacramento (9) and Spirit Ridge (2) should will also look to punch up early and take positions just in behind the leading pair.
The run-on profiles of Realm Of Flowers (8) and She's Ideel (4) will both be suited by the strong tempo, and can be charging late off a strong tempo.
The Favourite
Favourite Moon ($6.00) is the stablemate to gun UK raider Addeybb, and did impress when winning his lead up run at Rosehill in the Manion Cup (Group 2).
He can improve off the last start effort, having run some impressive late race sectionals.
As always, the UK stayers often have the upper hand when competing against the inferior Australian staying ranks.
Best Racing Tips
I'm with She's Ideel, who is absolutely flying this preparation and only just missed in Group 1 company last start when second behind Sir Dragonet in the Group 1 Tancred Stakes.
She was the subject of a huge betting plunge in-run two starts back. In-play punters were matching some interesting prices, before she stormed late to miss after encountering some bad luck. Looks the one here and could start shorter.
Favourite Moon comes via a win in the Manion Cup at Rosehill and appears to have the typical UK stoutness to take out this race. He just needs to hold form to be competitive, and may have possibly improved from last start.
Rondinella comes out of a fast run race here at Randwick last start over 2600m in the Chairman's Quality (Group 2), which should set her up well for this.
She has no weight (50kg) and if they go warp speed, expect her to be the one arriving late.
Realm Of Flowers was well supported late in betting last start and did go very close (.02 lengths) when finishing a brave second to Favourite Moon in the Manion Cup.
She is simply flying and could be very well suited now out to 3200m.
