Classy girls clash
Distance | 1500m |
Grade | Group 1 |
Track Rating | Soft 7 |
Prizemoney | $600,000 |
Class | Fillies and Mares Quality |
2019 winner | Dixie Blossoms ($21) |
The top shelf girls do battle here in what appears to be a very even affair in this year's Coolmore Classic.
Most arrive via the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes at Randwick last start, where there were some eye-catching runs from back in the field off the warp speed tempo.
I am with one who should receive an easier run out in front this time out, with much less pressure than last start the key.
Rosehill Track Traits
The Rosehill surface is currently rated a Soft 7, with the rail in the True position the entire circuit.
Fine conditions are predicted for the remainder of the week in Sydney, with rain forecast for Saturday.
With the inside likely to cut up if rain is present, it may be an advantage to race 5-6 lanes off the rail later in the day.
As always, a close watch is advised early to determine any fast lanes or bias.
Racing Market Movers
Spanish Whisper has attracted support in early betting and has firmed from an opening quote of $15 to now trade at $12.
Sweet Deal is out to $4.60 from $4.40 openers, whilst race favourite Sylvia's Mother remains rock solid at $4.20.
Key Runners
#2 Sweet Deal $4.40 > $4.60
Has exceptional early speed and loves to lead and grind them into the ground.
She was excellent last start at Randwick when she led, was pressured and was only just nutted on the line by Dawn Dawn.
Expect her to improve further off the last start run and she should lead again here with much less pressure. Can pinch it from out in front.
#3 Dawn Dawn $$15
Last start at Randwick, she got home hard to win well off the warp speed tempo set by Sweet Deal.
She'll get well back in the field again here, however I doubt there's the high pressure in this race that she will need to run home over the top. No.
#5 Pohutukawa $5.50
Promised the world as a three-year-old and then went off the boil for a period. She now looks back in business following two impressive runs back this preparation.
She had plenty of favours in her last start win at Randwick, including the good speed which allowed her to flash late.
I doubt it will all go her away again here, as she looks to make a run from the rear. Avoid.
#6 Con Te Partiro $18
Does have early speed and did pressure Sweet Deal throughout their battle last start, before dropping out.
They will attempt to race close again, however expect Sweet Deal to burn her off much earlier on this occasion.
Appears to be a touch off these in class. No.
#7 Sylvia's Mother $4.20
Looks all quality following the two impressive wins in Melbourne this preparation, both at Group 3 level.
There is a slight question mark out to the 1500m distance here, and whether she can be as dynamic over the longer journey.
I'm happy to gamble that she can run this trip right out and she is a must include in everything. Yes.
#9 Noire $20
Whilst beaten at both runs in this preparation, she has been far from disgraced and was only 1.9 lengths off the winner in the Guy Walter at Randwick last time out
The stable are very shrewd and she must be showing them something at home to be entered at Group 1 level here.
She looks up against it with a number of these having her measure recently, however a win would not completely shock.
#11 Spanish Whisper $15 > $12
Arrives from Melbourne and does bring strong Group level form from all her most recent outings.
She finished midfield (5 of 11) last start at Flemington, but did have genuine excuses after being held up at a key stage.
Given more luck here, she can improve significantly.
#14 Sweet Scandal $20
Chased hard at Randwick after a torrid run three wide with no cover, before finishing a very commendable 4 of 10.
She had no luck last start and given a more charmed run here, she could fire third-up where her record is very good (3:2-0-1).
I have a few ahead of her, however I would include if the support in betting came on race day. Watch betting.
Of The Others
#10 Oceanex looks huge odds at the current quote and is not travelling from the shrewd Mick Price Melbourne yard for fun.
Blends into the race nicely and has the turn of foot to unleash hell late. Very wary.
