Some of the Spring Carnival's major features are just around the corner, so punters will want to discover David Gately's early oil for some of these highlight races.
This week we look at Gator's selections and thoughts for Australia's premier WFA race, the Cox Plate.
Regarded as Australia's weight-for-age championship, the last two editions have been taken out by internationals. Will it be a local who gets the chocolates in 2021?
Let's see what David Gately says about the race...
ZAAKI
Similar to Incentivise in that he did some extraordinary things in Queensland both to the eye, and on the clock. Looked like the end of 2200m just tested him at end of that prep but Doomben Cup was outstanding, 2040m looks perfect.
VERRY ELLEEGANT
World-class mare. Won Caulfield Cup with weight then excellent in Melbourne Cup. Likely weighted out of those now so WFA path looks logical. No reason to think she will go backwards.
ANAMOE
Might be the year for another gun 3YO given lack of depth at top end (and little queries still on a few). Outstanding finale in Slipper then won Sires like the good horse he is.
MOUNGA
Not out of this if they head this way over a Golden Eagle.
