The track is currently rated a Good 4 and with fine weather forecast, it is expected to stay that way or even improve to a Good 3 throughout the day.
The running rail moves out two metres but shouldn’t have any major impact on the racing, ensuring that every horse gets its chance.
There should be an early battle for the lead, with Plymouth, Goldrush Guru, Savaglee, Stay Focused, and Feroce all looking to push forward.
However once positions are established the tempo is unlikely to be breakneck, meaning this could turn into a race of tactics rather than pure speed.
Sepals maps well and jockey Blake Shinn will have multiple options from the draw, likely settling a few pairs back from the lead.
The well-supported Point And Shoot will be positioned further back in the field and will require some luck, while Angel Capital should find a spot midfield with plenty of time to build into the race.
1st - #4 Angel Capital $4.00
Angel Capital rightfully heads the market at $4.00.
He has been outstanding as a three-year-old, suffering just one defeat in his last four starts, that coming in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas during the spring.
His first-up win at Caulfield over 1400m was nothing short of brilliant, showing an impressive turn of foot to put away a quality field.
This race presents him with an ideal opportunity to claim his first Guineas success in what is a much easier field compared to his previous Group 1 assignments.
Trainer Clinton McDonald is in red-hot form, with 11 winners from his last 36 runners, including four victories from his last eight starters, while jockey Ben Melham has also been riding strongly with seven wins from his last 30 rides. E
Everything points to Angel Capital being the one to beat, and he should be storming home down the middle of the track.
2nd - #12 Sepals $6.00
While Angel Capital is the clear top selection, Sepals presents as a major danger.
The gelding continues to improve with each run and was dominant in the C.S. Hayes Stakes, clearing out to win by over three lengths on rain-affected going.
The rise to 1600m for the first time should pose no issues and from an inside draw, he is well-placed to get the ideal run in transit.
With Blake Shinn riding in superb form, boasting six winners from his last 15 rides, Sepals will be right in the finish and could make things interesting.
3rd - #10 Ndola $17.00
Ndola presents as one of the best value runners in the race at $17.
His run in the C.S. Hayes Stakes was highly impressive, coming from near last to finish second in a race where very few runners made ground.
The most notable aspect of that performance was that he was the only horse to make an impact from the back of the field, while the rest of the midfield and backmarkers barely made an impression.
The step up to 1600m should be perfect for him, having already recorded a win and a placing from two attempts at the distance, and with this being his third run of the preparation, he should be peaking at the right time.
Given his turn of foot and the way he hit the line last start, he is one of the roughies worth considering.
4th - #2 Savaglee $12.00
The wildcard in this race is Savaglee, who brings strong New Zealand form across the Tasman.
With seven wins from 14 starts, he arrives in Australia following a solid third in the Group 1 BCD Group Sprint against older horses.
That race was won by Here To Shock, a proven top-class performer trained by Lindsay Park, and provides a strong form reference for this race.
If he can handle the rise to 1600m, he will be a genuine winning chance and represents a great each-way prospect at $12.
