Derby Day is considered the pinnacle of racing by many, with its trio of Group 1 features and an entire card of black-type races.
This year, the card presents a challenging landscape for punters, with strong potential for long-odds winners.
With that in mind, I’m targeting some value plays across the board.
Outside of my tips in the Coolmore Stud Stakes and Empire Rose Stakes, here are two more worth a solid wager this Saturday.
You can find the rest of my Flemington tips and more in my tip package below.
Cody Lane continues to find value amongst his best bets.
I’m willing to forgive Star Patrol’s first-up run in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield, where he was forced to race three-wide without cover before fading late.
This race sets up much better for him with the move to Flemington, where he has a solid record of 4 wins from 7 starts.
He’ll also benefit from the slight increase in distance to 1200m.
If he returns to his best, he’s well within reach of taking out this race.
Sans Doute has been racing well this preparation and looks set to peak back on the Flemington straight, where she’s proven herself with 4 wins from 5 starts.
Importantly, she’ll get a dry track for the first time this prep, a condition she thrives in with an impressive 7 wins and 2 placings from 10 starts on Good-rated ground.
Look for her to be flying home over the top of the field to close out the day in style.
