Randwick early mail
Champagne Cuddles - R5 No.1- there is little doubt the outside gate cost the Bjorn Baker-trained Champagne Cuddles victory in the Furious Stakes at Randwick on Saturday. The filly drew barrier seven in a field of seven with Tye Angland easing the filly early in an attempt to find cover but was forced to go back to the rear. She was switched to the outside straightening and ran home strongly recording 32.77 seconds for the last 600m – approximately five-lengths quicker than any other runner in the race. Champagne Cuddles has finished runner-up both runs back this preparation hitting the line strongly on each occasion, in a manner that suggests she is ready for 1400m which she gets in the Flight stakes.
Sound Proposition - R7 No.3- this former New Zealander now trained by Kris Lees won his last two starts after a determined victory at Randwick on Saturday. The Group I-winning gelding was giving 5kg to the second-placed horse Loyalty Man and still proved too strong, with a big gap back to third. He is up to the better grade of the Epsom at $13 enahnce odds with Ladbrokes. Is a beautiful bet.
Mornington early mail
Experimentation - R5 No.12- This colt could be very smart. He was back at the trials after an outstanding 1200m win at Pakenham in easily the best performance of the day. He sat handy to Theanswermyfriend here on speed and went every bit as well as that subsequent Flemington winner. He looks to have further improved for his recent win.
Street Impact - R8 No.11- made a good impression when she scored narrowly at Sandown on debut in July before trainer Robert Smerdon sent her for a break to develop further. She had a quiet trial when fourth at Cranbourne on September 4 before continuing the build-up to her racetrack return at the Caulfield jumpouts. The daughter of Street Cry showed good natural pace to lead the jumpout comfortably in the early and middle stages and wasn't pushed but held her position when challenged in the last 100m.
Morphettville early mail
Captain Duffy - R8 No.2- put the writing on the wall that he will be a future winner when running a much-improved second-up placing behind Steel Frost. After looming briefly at the 200m, fitness gave out and given similar improvement third-up expect this bloke to be in the mix, preferably over more ground. Captain Duffy goes much better than his moderate race record reads having done most of his racing in black-type company including a placing behind Jon Snow and Prized Icon in Tulloch Stakes last autumn.
Belmont early mail
Caralabek - R5 No.4 - Jumped evenly to be 7th along the rail 2.75L on settling, 7th at 800m, improved to be 4th 3 wide without cover 1L on the turn, ran to hit the lead inside the 100m, bravely held off late challenge to win narrowly Northam 14th Sept.
