Best punters and Australian racing media tipsters in August 2017

Two punters and a new racing APP made the most cash for punters in August. The highest profit maker was Geelong punter Dynamite23 who found no less than 34 winners at average odds of $6.65. Punters following him with $100 bets settled their ledgers with $5,720 extra at month end representing 34% profit on turnover.

The new Plunge App came in as the second biggest cash profit maker in August, proving there is money to be made when the price is wound down. There were 176 plunges for horse racing in August and 86 of them won at average odds of $2.37. The 49% strike rate gave punters betting on each alert a $2,750 reward from $100 win bets.

RonnieHanks was next best. He showed punters what value betting is all about finding three winners from 43 bets averaging healthy odds of $23.47. Punters following him with $100 bets made a cool $2,740 profit.

We got a different result entirely when calculating profit as a percentage of turnover. The Profit On Turnover (POT) category saw all three placegetters come from the Australian racing media with Racenet's Clinton Payne appearing in the top spot for the second time this year.

Payne posted 18 best bets during August with eight of them saluting at average odds of $4.96 to finish the month with 121% POT. This is the second time this year that Payne has taken out the monthly best tipster award. Back in March Payne delivered his followers a massive 256% POT from 17 best bets. At the time his 12 month POT was 38%. Since then Payne has pushed it higher to now stand at a freakish 43% from 195 tips over the 365 day period.

Country and provincial race caller James Tait flew the flag for Sky Racing in August. His 22 tips found nine winners at average odds of $4.54 giving him a solid 86% POT.

The Herald Sun's Matt Stewart was third best with his August best bets finding 10 winners for 66% POT.
