Monday Best Bets
We head to Tamworth for Monday's best bets, to tackle a competitive 7 race card.
The track is currently rated a Good 4, with the rail out 4m from the 1000m to the winning post and true the remainder.
At this set-up, on-pace runners will be at an advantage.
Best Bets from Michael Gannon
Tamworth Race 2 #3 Second Half $6.00
This son of Adelaide was well suited out to the mile last start, when running 1.6L, 3rd behind two well fancied runners.
He produced a clear career peak on that occasion and a repeat of that run has him coming out on top in this race.
From barrier 3 with Matt Palmer retaining the ride, he'll land on the back of nominated leader Whispering Cate (2) for a soft run in transit.
In a race that lacks depth, I expect Second Half to prove far too good for his rivals.
Tamworth Race 4 #1 Jocat $2.80
This former Victorian galloper stretched out to 2000m at her last prep, so the extra 200m in this race will suit.
Her first up effort over 1000m was strong and given she'd only had the one trial leading in, I suspect she can produce a big effort second up.
Her two previous second up runs have been solid and from the good draw she maps to sit on speed.
The 1.5kg claim for Jackson Searle is a bonus and has her well in at the weights carrying 58kg.
Her nearest danger is stablemate Royal Confession, who appears to race better on rain affected going.
Another runner who is well in the market is Flying Squad, this 3YO filly likes ot settle beyond midfield and won't be well suited at this set up.
Jocat has the fitness edge on her stablemate and can prove too strong late.
Tamworth Race 5 #8 Decadent Tale $4.20
This mare by Kermadec was dominant over 1150m last start and can go on with it here.
She ran a career peak on that occasion, on a Good 4 track, which she gets again here.
The extra 50m is of no concern and from barrier 6, she can be marked urgent and find the front.
A repeat of her last start run will be enough for her to make it back to back wins and continue her rise through the grades.
