Gator's Saturday Best Bets
The weekend racing action shifts to Moonee Valley and Rosehill, with both tracks expected to race on a Good surface.
At The Valley, the rail returns to the True position, which should see a fairer racing pattern after recent meetings where on-pace runners dominated.
Over in Sydney, Rosehill also has the rail out 3m and last week we saw runners quickly move away from the inside, suggesting the best ground may be wider again this Saturday.
David Gately has done the form and identified two standout selections, one in Melbourne and one in Sydney, that both look well-placed to deliver.
David Gately Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets 22/3/25
Best Bet Melbourne – Moonee Valley
Race 3 #13 – Top Calibre
Top Calibre returns to the races after an impressive first preparation, where he remained unbeaten and franked the form around him.
He trialled stylishly against some very fast horses leading into his first-up run, where he was strong to the line behind Pivot City.
He lost his spot at a crucial stage but still closed off well, and with a 2.5kg weight swing in his favour this time around, he looks perfectly placed to turn the tables.
Expect him to settle handier in the run and be powering home late at The Valley, where his turn of foot will be a major weapon.
Best Bet Sydney – Rosehill
Race 10 #7 – Outback Miss
Outback Miss has been flying this campaign, smashing her opposition first-up on a wet track, before proving too good again second-up on dry ground despite carrying weight.
Last start, she had mixed luck in the run but still managed to finish second behind Commemorative, beating home many of her key rivals here.
She maps well, can settle in a lovely stalking position, and with clear running from the top of the straight, she will be hard to hold out.
