Star to Bounce Back
We head to Rosehill for a ripping day of Group 1 racing, including the Ranvet Stakes and Rosehill Guineas.
Superstar mare Verry Elleegant has scared off most rivals in the Ranvet Stakes over 2000m, with only a small field of 6 set to face the starter.
We see another small field in the Rosehill Guineas over 2000m for the 3YO's, with Anamoe and Converge dominating the early market.
Track Conditions
The Rosehill track is currently rated a Soft 7 with the rail out 2m for the entire circuit.
Scattered showers are expected for the remainder of the week and into Saturday.
Rosehill Race 5 - Ranvet Stakes 2000m, Group 1 WFA
The Map
- Sikandarabad (1) & Entente (6) will fight it out for the lead, in what is expected to be a moderate tempo
- Montefelia (2) lands leaders back, with Angel Of Truth (5) to her outside, while Emissary (3) sit last the rails & Verry Elleegant (4) sits in the running line
The Early Favourite
Verry Elleegant (4) ($1.30) is a superstar and will prove far too good for her rivals.
The step up to 2000m is ideal, she's draw for the run of the race and retains J-Mac.
Put simply, it's a matter of how far for this girl.
Best Racing Tips
Verry Elleegant is an 11-time Group 1 winner. She's getting out to an even more suitable distance and is holding her form well. Wins and wins well.
Montefelia is clearly the best of the rest. She'll relish the rise to 2000m and has drawn for the softest of runs. Her 2000m ratings have her second pick and with even luck on turning for home, she can give Verry Elleegant something to run down.
Angle Of Truth is the best of the rest. The wetter the better for him and if we race on a Soft 7 or worse I could easily promote him to second pick.

Rosehill Race 6 - Rosehill Guineas 2000m, Group 1
The Map
- Sword Point (7) will spear across from the wide gate, with Profondo (6), Forgot You (4) & Converge (8) all likely to follow him across and sit on-pace
- Mediaro (2), Three Wise Men (3) and Raging Bull (5) will hold a mid-field position
- Anamoe (9) & Sinba (1) both look likely to sit at the rear
The Early Favourite
Anamoe ($2.10) was defeated by a Tim Clark pearler aboard Converge last start.
One thing is for sure, Converge will once again be ahead of his main rival on the turn.
The 2000m is ideal for Anamoe and I'm sure we'll see a well time ride from James McDonald on Saturday.
Best Racing Tips
Anamoe is set to peak 4th up and over 2000m. He's a genuine line finder and will prove it on Saturday.
While he doesn't get map favours in the small field, he will be within striking distance on turning for home and can put his rivals away.
Converge would have been top pick at the price, that's until the we saw the synthetic hoof filler added.
We have no idea to what degree it's needed and how small the addition is, but either way, it's not ideal.
He'll get every possible from the good draw and has the talent to fight out the finish.
Profondo was awful in the Group 1 Australian Guineas, but had excuses. Wide with cover on speed is not a great scenario for a horse first-up over the mile and I expect a better run on Saturday.
Hugh Bowman knows his way around the 2000m at Rosehill and can produce a great ride. Wouldn't surprise if he put in, but can't see him winning.
