Horse Racing tips from Michael Gannon
We head to North-West NSW on Monday to the home of the Golden Guitar, as Tamworth hosts a small but competitive 7 race meeting
After considerable rain across NSW over the past five days, the track has come up a Soft 5. However with further showers forecast, punters should expect a downgrade.
The rail is out 1m for the entire circuit and at this set-up on a deteriorating surface, look for on-speed runners to be favoured.
Tamworth Race 3 Tip #8 Jekyll $34.00 each-way
This looks a very open race and considering 6 of the 8 runners are first-up or on debut, a boilover is on the cards.
This son of Denman showed an abundance of early speed at his first two starts.
He's handled a rain affected track at both his runs and with the forecast looking grim, he'll be suited by the conditions.
He reaches peak fitness today and the booking of Jeff Penza is a huge plus.
The wide gate is also a blessing, as it will allow Penza to ease his mount across the field.
I expect leaders to be well suited today and if that occurs, this fella could steal a win.
Tamworth Race 4 Tip #1 Leo $2.45
The son of I Am Invincible produced a huge first-up win, defeating the highly touted Water Dove in Highway grade at Randwick.
He arrives here today with what appears to be an average second-up record (3:0-1-0). However looking closer at those three runs and he finished fourth twice and recorded a second, which is encouraging.
Dylan Stanley claims 4kg and gets his best chance yet to rack up career win number two.
In a small field of 7, look for Stanley to ride his mount like the best horse in the race, sitting wide in the run.
From there, he can prove far too classy for his rivals.
