With less than four weeks until the Golden Rose Stakes, we talk to David Gately and Michael Gannon and get their early predictions for the $1 million race.
NORTH PACIFIC
He was a brilliant winner recently in the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes at Randwick.
He runs time, he relaxes and the stable keep saying that they can't wait to see him on drier ground.
It is rare for a horse to be effective on Heavy ground and only improve on a dry track, but perhaps he's an exception?
ROTHFIRE
Has had a little set-back and missed a jump-out, which is not ideal.
However, the trial prior was excellent and his win in the Group 1 JJ Atkins before the break was awesome. In that clash, he rode a hot speed and raced away with it. It was a performance of an elite young athlete.
OVERLORD
Tipped him to beat Rothfire at big odds in that JJ Atkins but he was given no hope, way back in traffic. He flew home to finish 3.9L behind the winner, Rothfire!
Very quiet at the trials so doubt that helps. I'm willing to forgive his run on Saturday, where he looked tardy first-up.
Could go through the roof and looks the one early that is a blow out hope.
FARNAN
Flew at the trials and sits at the head of the table from two-year-old performances.
No knock on him!
MAMARAGAN
Was huge on Saturday when chasing tearaway leader, Anders.
He will continue to improve throughout his prep and I expect him to peak for this race!
FARNAN
Gai has declared he won't be beaten this prep, which comes as no surprise after his recent trial win.
He's the proven commodity and is a serious Group 1 race horse.
He looks set to run through walls this prep and the 1400m looks ideal.
PELTZER
Looks the only other danger to these two for mine.
He returned in great style at Rosehill on Saturday and will improve significantly off the back of that run.
The bigger field in the Golden Rose Stakes will assist him greatly. He's a versatile galloper and looks set for a huge prep.
