The track is currently rated a Heavy 8 but with drying conditions in Sydney over the past few days, the surface could sneak into the Soft range.

Canterbury Race 6 Tip #5 Emeralds $3.55
This mare has plenty of ability but only has the one win to her name.
She's been thrown in the deep end countless times and has always run promising races, without things going her way.
First-up over the 1100m at Kensington in Saturday grade, she was excellent from well back against a significant leader bias. She was one of the few that actually made ground on that occasion, clocking the fastest last 600m, 400m and 200m splits of the entire day.
The mare strips fitter second-up and is suited stepping out the 1250m. She drops back to a midweek BM72, which is the easiest class race she's contested since her maiden victory.
The booking of James McDonald is a huge push for her chances and I’m expecting her to prove too classy for these runners.

Canterbury Race 1 Tip #2 Solar Apex $2.80
The impeccably bred son of Deep Impact looks primed to get favourite backers off to a dream start here, coming off a sensational debut.
The Waller trained colt stepped out over 1600m at Gosford a fortnight ago, where he was snagged back from the wide barrier. He was still towards the back of the field at the 600m mark, before being forced out wide and making a long sustained run.
He finished strongly in third, narrowly beaten by 0.3 lengths and recording the fastest last 200m (11.68) of the race.
He will take natural benefit from that first career hit-out and strips fitter for his second career run.
From barrier 7, look for James McDonald to be within striking distance on the point of the turn.
From there, expect him to prove far too good for his rivals as he sets his sights on bigger targets this preparation.
