Fans of Sydney racing are once again looking down the barrel of a Heavy track surface.
The rail is out 9m. It was 8m here last meeting and it favoured those on pace.
With a wet track and the current rail position, those on-pace will have a key advantage early.
Randwick Race 1 #6 Midnight In Tokyo $7.50
Midnight in Tokyo looked home for all money last start at the 200m mark, before hitting a brick wall to finish unplaced.
At face value he was disappointing, but looking deeper into the entire meeting, leading on the inside part of the track was the inferior ground.
This gave me confidence the run was full of merit.
He returns to the races and draws a perfect gate here with the in form Sam Clipperton aboard.
He handles the heavy track with no concerns and we saw how he revels in it when he beat home G1 JJ Atkins winner Sheeza Belter at the Gold Coast.
There looks to be a stack of early speed and he can sit just behind it smoking the pipe.
He will surge to the line and can bounce-back here.
Randwick Race 8 #2 Oscar Zulu $10.00
Came from well off the pace last time to make up a stack of ground on Taksu.
By the time this race happens, with the rail out 9m, runners are likely to be circling wide for the best ground.
As a result, the wide gate isn't of concern and will work in his favour.
Jockey Hugh Bowman is booked to ride and knows how to time a run off the pace better than most.
Oscar Zulu additionally gets a further weight swing in his favour against Taksu for their rematch and looks well placed to break through for his first win of this campaign.
Randwick Race 10 #19 Ready To Humble $21.00
On a tough card likely to be decimated by scratchings, this Nathan Olive trained gelding can surprise at odds.
He put in a brilliant run last start over this same course and distance when luckless in the home straight.
The leader in that race, For Valour, motored early to burn across the field and it told late falling into a hole.
He went smack into the face of Ready To Humble and the latter had no room to move.
Bundled up on the inside jockey Billy Owen tried desperately to get out, but it was all in vain.
Without giving a yelp he cruised home in 4th under his own steam.
He now gets onto a heavy track (4:2-0-1) at peak fitness and draws a nice gate of barrier 3.
There is solid pace in this race from both inside and outside gates and Ready To Humble can sit behind the hot tempo.
When the moment presents Billy Owen can cruise to the outside of the track and steam home.
This is not the strongest field and with plenty of them giving weight to him he gets a lot of ticks in his favour.
