We return to Royal Randwick for Saturday metropolitan racing in NSW this weekend, with a 10 race card giving punters plenty to ponder.
The rail is out 6m and the track is rated a Soft 6, with nothing but sunshine forecast for what shapes to be a cracking winter's day in Sydney.
With a drier track and the current rail position, expect those on-pace and toward the inside to hold an advantage.
Gun form analysts Michael Gannon and Dean Watling have landed on two runners from the Chris Waller yard who look primed for a big showing.
Randwick Race 2 #9 Pool Pony $17
This gelding must have some untapped ability given he's moved to the Waller stable this prep, and I expect to see that on Saturday.
He missed the start first-up in what ended up being more of a barrier trial than anything else.
Bowman was booked on that occasion and he rarely gets on a slow one from the Waller stable.
The 1300m was way too short of his best, but the step up to the mile for this clash is ideal, as is the 2kg claim for an in-form Reece Jones.
His clear two best ratings have come at 1600m and beyond and if he can produce one of those, he'll go very close in what is a very average field.
The wide barrier is less than ideal, but it gives Jones only one option- take a sit and attempt to fly over the top of a small field.
At the $17, he looks a cracking bet!
Randwick Race 9 #8 Irish Angel $8.00
The rising 5YO mare from the Waller stable looks to be in good form and building towards a win.
She was desperately unlucky last start, when drawing out and finding herself back last on the rails.
She found all the trouble in world in the straight, but still managed to find the line well.
Her 3rd up record is great (4:1-2-0), she handles all tracks and finally draws a gate here to sit closer to the speed.
Schofield is on and at the current quote of $8.00, she looks a great play.
