The Coolmore Stud Stakes is a fascinating proposition this year, with a gun field of in-form 3YO sprinters assembled.
I expect a warp speed tempo down the Flemington straight and am with one who will simply relish the hot speed and be very dominant late.
Whilst earlier on the card in the Empire Rose over 1600m, I am very keen on a Godolphin runner who should enjoy stepping up to the mile and could explode again, now out to the a more suitable journey.
For the latest insight into how the Flemington track is expected to play, read our preview of the Victoria Derby and Kennedy Cantala here.
The Map
Look for Mirra Vision (10) to jump straight to the front and look to control this throughout.
Tofane (2), Mystic Journey (3) and Flying Mascot (7) are all likely to punch up in an attempt to hold positions just in behind.
Expect Colette (8) and Still A Star (5) to race back in the field and hope the speed goes on at some stage, to allow them to run home hard.
The Favourite
Tofane ($3.80) was unlucky in the Toorak Handicap behind I'm Thunderstruck, when being held up before coming again late to just miss.
She has an electric turn of foot and just needs the right run to allow her to unleash over the final 100m.
This race appears to lack good depth and whilst she is short enough at the current price, with some luck she could take advantage of the weaker field and being back to fillies/mares only grade.
I'm with Colette who looks suited stepping up to 1600m and should appreciate the wide open spaces of Flemington. She had an easy kill last start in the Tristarc (1400m) at Caulfield, after being heavily backed and winning accordingly.
Any rain will be a massive plus.
Still A Star was hard in the market ($10 into $7.50) late at this track last time out, when chasing hard to get up narrowly.
She has Tuurath form from two starts back and did beat Mystic Journey last time out. These are all form-lines that tie in well for this.
Mystic Journey is starting to recapture some good form and does have the potential to make it all the way back here if she keeps improving.
Although beaten by Still A Star here last time out, the run was full of merit with ultra impressive late sectional times.
Tofane is the gun mare who oozes class and could easily blow them away. She has all the best Group 1 form and should find good cover from gate 2.
I have a slight knock at the price ($3.80), as she could be vulnerable if they go at a solid tempo.
1st Colette
2nd Still A Star
3rd Mystic Journey
4th Tofane
The Map
Expect a warp speed here, with In The Congo (12) bouncing straight to the front and running them along.
Kallos (15), Home Affairs (13) and Paulele (6) should all receive the nice tag just in behind.
Artorius (4) and Ranch Hand (16) are the two that should love the hot tempo and can be charging home from rearward positions.
The Favourite
Extreme Warrior ($4.40) has been impressive at his past two starts, however they look to be against much weaker opposition than he will face here.
Although he did win impressively last start at Caulfield, he was soft in the market late ($4.80 to $5.50) which is a concern.
The hype is now well and truly on, however I believe he is a great risk and bumps into some genuine top-line 3YO's in this who should have his measure.
I'm with Artorius who will relish the hot tempo and should be the strongest one late.
They were thinking Cox Plate, however opted to come here which is a fascinating decision where we have to trust the team. This indicates he has plenty of sharpness over the shorter trip.
In The Congo is a tough on speed type that should race out early to set a warp speed tempo.
He can hang on for a long way, however is likely to be setting it up for the run on profiles of Artorius.
Kallos is still less exposed than most of these and could improve again off the last start win here. He clearly enjoys the Flemington straight and can win again at good odds ($11).
Ranch Hand was well supported ($6 into $4.80) in betting to beat Kallos last start, when he just got too far back in a slowly run race.
More tempo here suits and he is another big improver.
