Early mail for Missile Stakes Day
We return to NSW headquarters for this week's edition of free best bets, with a tidy 10 race card highlighted by the Group 2 Missile Stakes.
The track is currently rated a Good 4 and the rail is out 5m in the straight.
At this track set-up, punters should expect a fair racing surface.
Randwick Tip from Dean Watling
Randwick Race 7 Tip #1 Kolding $5.00
They went up silly odds in the all-in markets about the three time Group 1 winner for the feature Missile Stakes and he still represents value.
It’s well noted he's a better horse second-up and over a bit more ground, but he doesn’t need to be at his best to win this race.
He is profiling perfectly for the Winx Stakes in a few weeks over 1400m, so you can trust he will be more than fit enough to win first-up.
The key to his success is the dry track. His last three starts on a dry surface have resulted in wins in the All Aged Stakes, Hill Stakes and George Ryder. The form doesn't get much better than that.
James McDonald takes the ride and I'm happy with barrier 8, where he can either glide across and have the choice of the gun run or take up the lead.
His main weapon is his ability to ride the speed and before unleashing his turn of foot. This race profiles perfectly for that.
He may be a run short of his peak form, he'll be forward enought to win this race. Expect to see the money come late to confirm this.
Class horse in the race.
Randwick Tip from Adrian Sciglitano
Randwick Race 1 Tip #2 Diamondsnstones $5.50
I'm happy to start the day with the Hawkes trained 4YO, who looks set to to return to the winner's circle after a good effort first-up behind Fastconi over 1200m.
The son of Brazen Beau sat outside race day rival Vreneli on that occasion, facing the breeze in the process on a day where it was advantageous to be fence in run. He tucked in behind the speed, so his effort to fight on and run fourth was much better than it reads on paper.
He was a winner over 1600m last prep, so the step up to 1400m for this clash with added fitness second-up looks ideal.
In-form apprentice Brock Ryan takes the ride, claiming 2kg which puts him well in at the weights. Furthermore, the switch back to a dry deck where all of his three wins have come looks positive.
From the gate, he can position outside the lead once again and will look the winner with 100m to go.
