Heath's Each-way Specials
The curtain comes down on a stellar South Australian racing carnival this Saturday, as Group 1 Goodwood Day takes centre stage at Morphettville.
While the nation’s attention will be firmly fixed on the return of Giga Kick, South Aussie form guru Heath Pope is digging deeper, hunting for value outside the obvious.
Expect another dry deck, with the track rated a Good 4 and the rail in a position that should give all runners their chance.
It’s a typically tricky carnival program and Heath is once again taking an each-way approach.
Here’s where he’s playing:

Best Bets for Morphettville by Heath Pope 10/5/25
Race 1 #2 – Imposing Suspect $35.00
Forget the last two runs, this consistent gelding has had nothing go right.
Go back three starts and you’ll find a terrific win when he ran down Ghetto Supastar, who lines up later as one of the better-backed runners of the day.
That win came under Taylor Johnstone, who reunites here and is likely to push forward again in a race devoid of tempo.
If he reproduces that effort, he’s a clear single-figure chance that we’re getting at double the price.
Rated: $9
Race 5 #10 – Pelevecchio $8.50
This filly screams natural stayer and could’ve easily run in last week’s Derby, such is her closing strength.
Instead, the smart Maher/Eustace stable placed her here, and that looks the right move.
Drawn to do no work and reuniting with Lachie Neindorf, who produced one of the rides of the carnival last week, she’ll be steaming late and looks a huge each-way play in a very winnable race.
Rated: $6
Race 6 #7 – Nonconformist $4.50
If Giga Kick is well-weighted in the Goodwood, then this Group 1-class galloper is an absolute gift here, with just 55kg against Group 3 company.
Resumes off three slick trials and looks perfectly set for a first-up raid.
This is the same horse who ran a luckless WFA placing behind Buckaroo last prep with 59kg.
He’s been targeted for this, and you don’t see Grahame Begg travel them unless he’s got the right one.
Rated: $4
