Dylan Gibbons confident in landing feature double on Hawkesbury Cup Day 2023

We head to one of NSW's finest provincial tracks this Saturday as Hawkesbury hosts its honoured Group 3 Cup Day.

Although the Autumn carnival may have concluded last week, it hasn't stopped the big-name stables from sending out some of their most talented runners.

A jockey hoping to keep his momentum from the Sydney Autumn is star apprentice Dylan Gibbons.

Nic Ashman caught up with the up-and-comer to get his thoughts on his key chances throughout the meeting.

The Gibbons Household is running hot

Less than two weeks after landing his first Group 1 victory, apprentice jockey Dylan Gibbons reckons he can land a stakes double at Hawkesbury on Saturday.

When Explosive Jack powered over the top of his rivals to win the Sydney Cup, Gibbons “got one up on the old man”, Andrew, in being the first in his family to bag a Group 1 win.

“It would’ve been great if Dad had’ve won the Doncaster [aboard Nugget] and then me a week later in the Sydney Cup,” Dylan Gibbons said.

“But he still ran a good third and its certainly been a big carnival for our household.”

“She took on the best fillies going around earlier this prep and her win in the South Pacific Classic over 1400m was outstanding,” Dylan said.

“She beat the boys there and she can do it again."

Punters might even be able to see Dylan doing a rain dance prior to the meeting, "If the track gets into the heavy range, she’ll be very hard to beat as she’s now two from two on it.”
