Caulfield Best Bets
Caulfield plays host to a Group Three afternoon of racing, with the running of the Victoria Handicap and Easter Cup as highlights of the day.
The track is currently rated a good 4 and with fine weather predicted, participants will be met with a dry racing surface.
The rail is 3m the entire circuit, at this set-up, runners may tend to edge off the fence slightly as the day progresses.
Caulfield Race 1 Tip #6 Plus Fours $5.00
Competitive 2YO race to start the day, and the Phillip Stokes trained Plus Fours looks a good bet to kickstart proceedings.
This gelded son of Cable Bay was very impressive on debut at Cranbourne over 1000m, finishing second by under a length after coming from last.
The shape of the race was against him from that settling position, as the leader went slow and it suited on-pace horses.
He ran the fastest last 200m of the entire day and also had the third best last 400m, both extremely impressive feats on debut.
Second up here, he will be fitter and better for the race experience.
He will likely settle a touch closer from the good draw and this will make a huge difference to his chances.
If he was to get back he wouldn't be out of contention. The regular fast tempo of these city 2YO races will play into his liking.
Big rider booking of Brett Prebble is the cherry on top. He is a great winning chance here in the opener.
Caulfield Race 6 Tip #4 Forever Free $10.00
Good each way play comes up here in the BM84 for the fillies and mares.
This is set to be a wide open contest and that is reflected by this bet.
This Ellerton runner was very good winning first up at Mornington, and put away a handy field including Starry Legend and Midwest.
She managed to sit handy to the speed behind an even tempo, and once off heels she won comfortably in the end with a meeting fastest last 200m split as well.
Second up here and has clearly returned to racing in very good order. She will get another suck run from the inside barrier which will really help.
If presented with luck at the right time, she will definitely be fighting out the finish for Matt Cartwright who takes 2kg off as well.
She is a previous second up winner in her career and last prep after winning fresh she contested the Listed Incognitus Stakes, being hardly disgraced.
Very well suited in this grade, I'm surprised she isn't shorter than this in the market.
