Early Mail for Easter Cup Day
Caulfield plays host to the Group 3 Easter Cup meeting on Saturday, with some very talented Melbourne Cup runners and a few new imports set to hit to the race track for the feature event.
The track is currently rated a Good 4 and with fine weather predicted for Melbourne, participants will be met with a dry racing surface.
The rail is out 6m the entire circuit and at this set-up, inside lanes could be advantaged as the day wears on.
Caulfield Tips from TheMelbourneMail
Caulfield Race 2 Tip #8 Canadian Gold $10.00
The price about this team Corstens filly is all wrong, especially since she is coming off a seriously impressive debut win at Sale last start.
She jumped well but elected to settle behind midfield, and was helped along by a somewhat strong tempo up front.
Under riding on the turn, she quickly started to gather on her rivals and pulled away eventually for an effortless 2 length win, being eased down over the final few stages.
She had the fastest closing sectional of the entire race, and it was the third fastest last 200m split for the meeting. It was a very impressive effort seeing that she was not only on debut, but wasn't fully tested through the line.
She comes into this harder city event with a lot of upside now going into her second career start, and the claim for Lachie King brings her down below the minimum which signifies a huge weight advantage.
The filly has a lovely stride and a very long length of reign on her, and she will really appreciate what looks set to be another genuine lead tempo set by runners from the inside barriers.
She is progressive enough, in my opinion, to be able to take this next step here with no weight on her back.
She's certainly a genuine winning chance and a great bet at the odds.
Caulfield Race 9 Tip #12 Killourney $11.00
Another price that is far too generous to pass up here, about a horse who had absolutely zero luck in his Australian debut last start at Sandown.
First up for 633-days with new stable Paul Preusker, he started in a BM84 over the 1400m and was a luckless third behind Shandy, who also lines up in this event.
In that clash, he settled behind midfield with only an average tempo in front which didn't help his chances. He straightened up in between runners and didn't have the clearest path to the line, but also took a long time to wind up.
His late work through the line was very eye catching, signifying he wasn't fully wound up and that he needs further.
His last 200m split was not far off the fastest of the entire day, and the step up to 1600m now with added race fitness on his side will be a massive bonus.
I also expect that them to be able to settle closer in the run, and sitting right down in the weights on 54kg will allow him to have that turn of foot through the line late.
He was a talented horse when in Ireland, and could no doubt be a black-type winner here in Australia.
Expect him to run very well on Saturday.
