Mick's Best Bets for Monday's racing
We head to Taree on Monday for a solid meeting of racing, with an 8-race card ahead.
The track is currently rated a Heavy 8, with the rail in the true position.
At this set-up, I expect the best going to be down the middle of the straight.
Below are my best bets on what looks a competitive meeting.
Horse Racing Tips from Michael Gannon
Taree Race 4 #9 Mikado $4.80
A last start winner over the 1500m, this son of Exceed and Excel is set to make it back to back victories.
His 4 career wins have come on rain affected going, so the track conditions are right up his ally.
He's stepping out to the mile 5th up, is rock hard fit and gets a very suitable map.
Capri Lane (2) will go forward to lead and is a genuine risk over the 1600m for the first time in his career.
Short priced favourite Chase My Crown (3), maps to sit leaders back and will need plenty of luck to get off the rails on the turn for home.
Mikado (8) jumps from the widest barrier, will sit off a strong tempo and will find what is likely to be the best part of the track in the straight.
Taree Race 5 #14 In The Blink $1.95
This filly by Pierro has produced 4 career ratings that have her winning this race with ease.
Her best runs have come on rain affected tracks and she gets conditions to suit here.
Her last start 2nd over 1200m at Newcastle was great, producing her second highest career rating.
She's drawn barrier 4, gets the services of Andrew Gibbons and maps perfectly.
Look for Gibbons to be positive from the draw, likely settling three pairs back in the running line and poised to strike.
She's clearly the best horse in the race and only bad luck will be beating her.
