Early Mail for All Star Mile Day
The Valley plays host to All Star Mile day on Saturday, with a cracking nine race card scheduled for the afternoon.
The $5 million feature event will be run over the mile in race number eight.
The track is currently rated a Good 4, but there is a downpour expected on Friday and race day so it will be crucial to see how that plays out.
The rail is in the true position for the entire circuit and at this set-up, on-speed would likely be an advantage if it doesn't rain. However if it does, jockeys will look to edge off the fence on turning for home.
Moonee Valley Tips from TheMelbourneMail
The Valley Race 2 Tip #7 Scorched Earth $2.80
A deserved favourite in my opinion here is Scorched Earth for the 2YO Listed event over 1200m.
She has been somewhat of a surprise packet this prep, initially running second behind Arcaded in the Blue Diamond Prelude after leading throughout. There was a good gap back to the third horse in that race, indicating that she ran very well.
Last start she absolutely walked in at Murray Bridge in the 2YO classic, showing superior leading speed and talent to win by over 5 lengths eased down on the line.
Third-up here and she profiles as a perfect Valley horse. From barrier five, she will bounce and find the rail in the lead with ease, having greater gate speed than anything to her inside.
From there, she should be able to control this race just as she likes.
Her adaptability to be very strong late off either fast or slow splits means she can run this race to suit herself and be the winner either way.
Third-up at peak fitness and with the booking of D Oliver, who rarely rides for this stable, is a huge signal of intent.
As we all know, The Valley can be heavily influenced by the speed map and she looks unbelievably placed here to lead all the way.
The Valley Race 4 Tip #2 Age Of Chivalry $4.80
Looks good value here for Age Of Chivalry who despite being first-up, has actually had three jump outs leading in.
He's a horse who usually doesn't have that many jump outs leading into a prep, as they tend to aim at races later in the prep over the 1400m+.
So, the fact they have led in with the three pieces of work signals intent for a big fresh run here.
He ran extremely well behind Viridine in a Listed event last prep fresh, and then proved he could handle 1200m at The Valley by running a solid 3rd in the Listed Chandler Macleod.
He is a previous winner fresh, and has a great record on rain effected going including a 2nd behind now Group 1 winner Homesman.
The speed map looks perfect, he has great barrier speed and should lob in behind the two leaders Dollar For Dollar and Ancestry.
Hoping that those two take each other on in front, it could set up a genuine 1200m race and he will have the cold sit on them from there.
