Best plays on All Star Mile Day
Caulfield takes centre stage this Saturday in Melbourne, with the second running of the $5 million weight-for-age All Star Mile.
The feature event takes place in race seven of a blockbuster nine race card. It was taken out by Mystic Journey last year, and another quality field of 15 will attempt to claim glory on Saturday.
The track is currently rated a Good 4. There is rain anticipated in Melbourne on Friday night, which means the track could possibly start in the Soft range. I do not anticipate it to start any worse than a Soft 6.
The last time they raced here, the rail was out 3m and there was a significant advantage to horses racing on speed. With the rail out 6m on Saturday, I expect those running close to the speed to again be favoured.

Caulfield Race 3 Tip #2 Celestial Sol $3.70
This two-year-old prodigy out of Fighting Sun makes his debut for the Waller stable, after moving from Robbie Laing.
Celestial Sol showed an abundance of talent in a Cranbourne trial late last year, displaying an electric turn of foot to win the trial by 5 lengths in front of Hanseatic.
We all know how Hanseatic ended up running in his first campaign, stamping himself as one of the best two-year-old's in the country.
His recent Flemington jump out over 800m was very strong, trucking through the line under a big hold
Celestial Sol has since been freshened over the new year period, and debuts here in a very winnable race.
He has drawn the inside alley, which is absolutely perfect for this bloke. He can sit handy to the speed and will be able to use the rail to guide him around the course, which is always a positive for these young horses.
The betting movements may end up being our best guide, but I will be having a wager on this horse regardless.
If he can replicate the talent he has shown in trials and jump outs, he should be very hard to beat.
Caulfield Race 6 Tip #1 Sartorial Splendor $4.80
Sartorial Splendor returns here to Caulfield second-up, after a forgettable and excusable first-up performance.
He pulled up with a case of the thumps on that occasion, after leading and compounding very quickly over the 1100m Group 2 Rubiton Stakes.
He has been freshened since that run and will line-up here back to full health, with some residual fitness and against much easier company.
He is the clear class horse of the field, hence why he has been allotted the 59.5kg. The perfect draw in barrier one eases the weight burden, as it will allow Jamie Kah to jump quickly and take up the lead with very minimal effort.
If she is able to control the tempo to her liking, she could stack them up and kick clear on the turn and give them something to run down.
The rail position is very suitable for his racing pattern. Catch him if you can!
Include Excused (#8) in any multiples. He represents great value in this race and could be a good quinella play.
