A fan favourite race, the All Star Mile has grown rapidly in stature in a very short period of time.
This Saturday, Caulfield prepares to host it's second ever edition with a racing line-up engaged to intrigue both hardcore racing fans and casual punters alike.
The inclusion of gun horse Alligator Blood has certainly helped the Public Relations machine, along with the assembled support act of high quality runners.
I expect the favourite to be vulnerable here and with the speedy Streets Of Avalon engaged, he may not get it all his own way through the early stages of the race.
Caulfield Track Traits
The Caulfield surface is currently rated a Good 4, with the rail out 6m the entire circuit.
Showers are predicted for Friday, with fine conditions on Saturday.
With the tight-turning circuit at Caulfield, it can be an advantage to be racing on or close to the speed.
As always, a close watch is advised early to determine any fast lanes or bias.
Racing Market Movers
Race favourite Alligator Blood has been well supported in early betting, firming from $2.80 to now trade at $2.60.
All other runners remain steady.
Key Runners
#1 Kolding $11
Was not suited here at Caulfield last time out in the Futurity Stakes, on a day when it was near impossible to come wide and make up ground.
I'm willing to mark the last start effort a complete forgive run, and he could easily bounce back to winning form here.
The four-year-old gelding should be midfield with cover throughout the race and peeling at the right time. Looks big odds.
#3 Fierce Impact $9.50
Loves Caulfield (3:1-1-0) and the two runs in this preparation have been impressive.
The stable are desperate to get him to stud and a win here would certainly secure that.
Although classy, I expect a few of these to have his measure. Happy to risk.
#4 Regal Power $13
The market has shown some early interest in the WA raider after a close up second (0.5 lengths) in the Australian Cup.
He ran on well from a long way back at a favourable Flemington track, to finish right behind Fifty Stars.
If the speed goes on, expect him to be the one unleashing hell late if conditions suit. Top hope.
#7 Mr Quickie $14
Has to be considered with his solid first up form (3:1-1-1).
He ran in the Caulfield Cup last preparation and although longer distances may be the ultimate target, his 1600m form is still impressive (3:1-1-1).
Reports are the four-year-old gelding is flying and a number of the bigger tipping operations have found him. Could start shorter.
#9 Melody Belle $5.00
Is a gun mare who just needs a touch of speed to be able to run home hard over the top.
She was excellent over the Flemington Spring Carnival, when she went very close to winning twice at Group 1 level in one week.
Her first up run in the Futurity is a forgive and forget, as nothing made ground from the back on that day. Goes on top.
#11 Alligator Blood $2.80 > $2.60
Cult superstar who is building an imposing record (11:10-1-0) and just keeps on winning against high quality opposition.
He should race in the first pair and look to kick away on the point of the turn.
However, punters should be wary of the added pressure up front. There would be no surprises to see the speedy Streets Of Avalon ($31) vye for the premier position, which will change the dynamic of the race.
Include, but certainly vulnerable here.
#13 Superstorm $13
Is a big tip from a number of shrewd punting camps and did put in a barnstorming run last start in the Australian Guineas, where he finished second behind Alligator Blood.
If the speed goes on and the favourite is softened up, I expect him to run home over the top. Leading chance.
#15 Flit $14
Is very good on her day and carries no weight (54kg) as the lone three-year-old filly.
She was excellent winning first-up at Randwick, before slightly disappointing in the Surround Stakes after finishing 6 of 11.
Given the right run here with cover, she certainly has the quality to win. Needs favours in the run.
Of The Others
None Preferred.
