Gator's Saturday Best Bets
It’s another high-quality Saturday of racing, with Caulfield in Melbourne and Rosehill in Sydney hosting competitive programs.
Track conditions are set to be ideal, with both venues currently rated Good 4 and firming, ensuring fair racing across the board.
At Caulfield, the rail moves out 4m, which may see horses shifting wider later in the day, as the inside lanes were chopped out last meeting.
In Sydney at Rosehill, the rail is out 5m, and while on-pace runners held a strong advantage last time, there was no major bias the last time the 5m rail was in play.
With the scene set, let’s dive into the best bets of the day at both tracks.
David Gately Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets 22/2/25
Bet of the Day – Caulfield
Race 3 No.5 - Emphasize
Emphasize has quickly stamped himself as a progressive horse with serious ability.
He closed strongly on debut, finishing behind a subsequent Flemington winner, before jumping in trip at his second start and bolting in, producing exceptional late sectionals and overall time.
At his latest outing, he took on older horses in a fast-run race, made an early move, and refused to be beaten, displaying toughness and class beyond his experience.
This is a serious racehorse on the rise, and he looks well-placed again to continue his winning streak.
Expect him to settle midfield and power home late with another impressive turn of foot.
Bet of the Day – Rosehill
Race 5 No.1 - Makarena
Makarena resumes here and is exceptionally well-placed under the set weights conditions.
First-up last preparation, she produced a huge performance in the Group 2 Sheraco Stakes, finishing fourth behind Sunshine In Paris after being forced to race outside a strong speed.
She followed that up by defeating Amelia’s Jewel, further proving her genuine Group-class ability.
She returns here with 56kg, which is an outstanding weight advantage for a 109-rated horse in this field.
She has trialled beautifully leading into this, and with natural progression, she looks ready to win fresh.
