Sparks set to fly in Blue Diamond
The first Group 1 battle of the season for the juveniles is naturally very open.
With only five of the 16 runners initially under $10.00 in early betting, we are in for an absorbing and unpredictable race.
The sprint starts at Caulfield often lend themselves to runners drawn away from the inside and with hot pressure expected here, this shapes as a race won from off the pace.
So who is going to get the perfect set-up here? Let's dive into it.

Blue Diamond Stakes 2025 Tips and Best Bets
Track Conditions & Speed Map
The track is currently rated a Good 4, though hot weather in the lead-up could push it towards a firmer rating.
The rail is out 4m which should provide an even pattern early before likely trending towards off-speed runners late in the day.
On the speed map, the early favourite Field Of Play ($4.80) is drawn well enough to roll forward and either sit outside the speed or right behind the leader.
That early speed should come from last-start Group 3 winner The Playwright ($14.00), who draws beautifully in barrier three and is expected to take up the running.
Other notable runners on speed include:
- Tentyris ($16.00) who will press forward and settle near the pace
- Devil Night ($13.00) who should secure a cosy, economical run
- My Gladiola ($7.50) who will also position just behind the leading group
Further back in the field, Palm Angel ($8.50) and Cherish Me ($7.50) will likely settle midfield, looking to pounce late.
Tycoon Star ($18.00) and Tempted ($8.00) will settle further back and attempt to storm home in the closing stages.
Who do the All-In boys like in the Blue Diamond?
The Favourite – Field Of Play $4.80
Field Of Play has proven near bulletproof this preparation, winning both of his starts, including an impressive victory in the Blue Diamond Prelude (Colts & Geldings) at this track.
He maps to sit in a perfect position on speed, making him an obvious leading contender.
However, he will face significantly more pressure in this race, with multiple horses keen to take up prominent positions.
This will make his task far more challenging than his previous runs.
Neil’s Best Bet – Cherish Me $7.50
If Cherish Me can find the right trailing cover from a middle barrier, she shapes as the best value runner in the race.
She hasn’t started since powering home to win the Geelong Diamond over 1100m nearly seven weeks ago, but she has jumped out well at Cranbourne and fresh is clearly her best go.
There was real strength in her last win and she had plenty in hand through the line.
With her blistering turn of foot, she can take advantage of a likely strong tempo and at the early price, she is a fantastic betting prospect.
The Dangers
- Field Of Play – Hard to fault his preparation and form, but faces significantly more early pressure than previous starts.
- Tempted – A certainty beaten first-up in the Group 3 Widden Stakes at Rosehill. Can charge home late and has untapped ability.
- My Gladiola – Beaten in the Fillies Prelude but brings strong form into this race. Will need to find another gear.
- The Playwright – Likely leader and should give a bold sight if left alone up front.
