Best plays for CF ORR Stakes Day
Caulfield plays host to the first Group One race of the Autumn carnival, with the running of the C.F. Orr Stakes over 1400m.
The track is currently rated a good 4 and with fine weather predicted, participants will be met with a dry racing surface.
The rail is true the entire circuit and at this set-up being in the front 6 in running will be a blessing.
Caulfield Race 5 Tip #15 Madame Du Gast $14.00
Thought this roughie from the Rogers yard could give this cracking edition of the Group 3 Kevin Hayes a shake.
She was most impressive winning at Flemington off a hot speed to win nicely, both on the clock and to the eye.
She ran the 2nd best last 200m sectional of the entire program and ran her last 400m close to 4 lengths quicker than standard for the track and distance.
This filly has been kept right up to the mark with a soft Cranbourne trial win, and comes into this fitter for the race experience.
Drawn well in barrier four, she can sit right behind another strong tempo and if the gaps appear can be right in the thick of the finish.
She obviously must lift again to be matching it with some of the more fancied runners, but her debut rating was as pleasing as it gets.
Young Matt Cartwright is riding in very strong form and this horse looks a good each-way play for mine.
Caulfield Race 8 Tip #12 Lightsaber $13
Thought this looked an outstanding price about a proven Group One contender, and i'm very happy to be with Lightsaber each-way in the feature.
His first up run in the G2 Australia Stakes was full of merit, finishing only 3.5L off the very talented Marabi, and right on the heels of Sinawann who is favourite for this race.
Therefore, I can't understand the price difference. Lightsaber is a proven 1400m performer, having won three of four attempts at this distance.
He is a second up winner and will strip fitter for this event. He gets a weight reduction and is drawn perfectly to find the lead very easily.
He won the G3 Guineas Prelude last prep at this distance and then was only 2.75L off Anamoe in a G1 Caulfield Guineas.
He is currently on track for an All Star Mile so this is clearly not his grand final, but it is a G1 race nonetheless and the Moody camp will have him right on the mark.
He should be single figures without question and I'm very keen to take a solid each way slice of the current odds on offer.
