Horse Racing tips from Michael Gannon
Monday racing in NSW takes place at two venues this week.
Bathurst hosts a seven race card, which sees the likes of Bjorn Baker and the Maher & Eustace stable send runners around.
The track is currently rated a Soft 5, whilst the rail is out 2m from the 1200m-350m before the cutaway applies.
We'll also have an eye on the upper Hunter region, with some promising types hitting the track at Muswellbrook.
That surface is rated a Soft 6 and the rail is in the true position.
Bathurst Race 2 Tip #9 ChoosdayNights $8.50
This mare by Jimmy Choux began awkwardly last start, before racing wide without cover throughout the trip.
She then raced awkwardly around the turn and appeared to hang out.
After a tough run in transit, she wasn't asked for an effort until the final 100m. At that point, she produced a strong finish where she made up good ground.
From the better draw in barrier 3 today, she can sit more forward in the run with cover.
The rise to 1408m is ideal and I expect her to produce a huge run today!
Muswellbrook Race 4 Tip #4 Oakfield Hiawatha $1.50
The good thing of the day!
Unfortunately, we've seen 8 runners scratched from the field, all likely dodging this galloper who produced a strong run first-up.
He jumped from a wide gate and showed great fight late, running third behind two runners coming out of metropolitan races.
The 2.7 length gap back to fourth suggests this gelding had plenty on his rivals and a repeat of that effort today will ensure a win.
Jumping from barrier 9 after scratchings, jockey Ashley Morgan will mark him urgent and send him straight across to lead.
With any luck, we'll get a late drift due to the wide barrier and can truck load it in the last few minutes of betting.
