Maher camp crunches their cup runner
Cup day often presents a tricky proposition for punters with large fields and diverse form lines, which makes the early price action of significant importance.
At Flemington, punters haven’t missed an expensive yearling purchase that looks like an excellent chance here.
While at Randwick, Waller looks to have one perfectly placed to run well second-up with this race likely to have been the target to have him peaking all along.

Flemington Tips
Price Tag
Expensive yearling purchase as the name suggests and must be showing them enough at home to indicate she is well above average.
She was heavily backed ($4 into $3.30) on debut, when placing 3rd of 7 after having genuine excuses and only just missing.
That run should have brought her right on and a second try down the Flemington straight looks ideal.
Yes.
Opening Address
The Liam Howley stable loves a bet and rarely miss when they have a decent crack at one, which looks to be the case here.
He ran well to place 2nd of 9 in the Vase at Moonee Valley and was possibly on a Derby path before they opted for the easier option here.
He looks suited dropping back down to 1800m and given the recent form should be one of the strongest late.
Kinesiology
Waller Import who showed enough in the UK to attract the attention of buyers here locally.
He was possibly bought as a Cups horse however they have run out of time this season and are giving him every chance to settle in before an all-out Cups assault next year.
I like the fact he hasn’t been rushed and they have no need to run here which indicates he’s showing enough to be entered as a genuine chance.
Okita Soushi
Was an excellent performance at Moonee Valley last start in the Gold Cup toughed it out right to the line to beat them all.
He looks a much more seasoned horse this campaign and has the advantage of a Cups campaign last year which should have him ready this time around.
J Kah is booked and the Ciaron Maher stable does appear confident with him.
Randwick Tips
Blazing Harry
Lightly raced Melbourne visitor who has shown enough in provincial grade to warrant a trip to Sydney in the better class.
He has been well-supported in betting at all career starts and was touted by the stable as having stakes grade potential early.
This could be the trip away he needs, and it would not surprise to see him come away with an easy kill here.
Gringotts
Has raced well all prep and appeared unlucky on plenty of occasions where he has chalked up several second placings in genuine Saturday grade.
This race has depth however he has a touch of quality, and they knew this was the target from a long way out, hence the preparation should be ideal.
Although drawn wide (23) expect he can find the moving line with cover and from there at this stage of the day, it may be advantageous to be tracking wide down the straight.
Waterford
Quality Waller runner who on his day can blow most fields away, given the right tempo and position in the run.
Second-up (4:1-2-1) is perfect now and he should be prepped up to the minute for this with plenty of intent to be shown from the good draw in gate 3.
This appears classic Waller timing for a horse to be peaking in the right race!
South Of India
Nash is booked which says a lot and with the other senior riders out of town for the Cup, he is the one who likely takes his pick of the higher-weighted runners.
The horse must be going well and did win here last start to round out last preparation.
First-up is good and this race is likely to have been the target from a long way out.
