Kurt Burns' best plays for Snake Gully Cup Day
We head to the Murrumbigee River on Friday for the first day of the Snake Gully Cup Carnival at Gundagai.
The Snake Gully Cup is the feature race of the day, with a strong field of 15 runners set to battle it out.
The Waterhouse/Bott trained Regal Stage has come up the early favourite, but the chances don't end there.
This is a showcase meeting which means there is a boost in prize money on offer for connections, which attracts trainers from far and wide.
The track is rated a Good 3 and the rail is situated in the true position for the entire circuit.
Gundagai Race 1 Tip #5 Zar Iz Nomore $3.85
Wagga trainer Wayne Carroll saddles up the gelding by Zari, who will make his debut in the opening event.
Coming off one impressive trial where he ran a close up third, he looks set to fire at his first career start.
In that trial, he received a squeeze in the straight which saw him produce a nice effort to burst through the pack late.
From a lovely soft draw here, I expect Simon Miller to sit nice and close to the speed to be within striking distance.
The only danger is the Gary Colvin trained Nics Hero, but that horse faces a tough task having drawn barrier 14 at this tight turning circuit.
Gundagai Race 7 Tip #5 Mount Horeb $9.60
What a tricky Snake Gully Cup we have this year!
They could run the race 10 times and get 10 different winners.
I've stuck with a horse I've had a fair bit of time for in Mount Horeb.
He brings some strong Sydney form into this, but the big factor for me is getting back onto a firm track.
I expect to see a much better showing on the Good surface and at the odds, he's my top pick in the feature race.
