Wide open betting for Flemington finale
The Spring carnival winds down at Flemington this Saturday, however punters are still spoilt for genuine winning hopes right across the day, with even markets seen in most races.
With the surface well used at this stage of the carnival, track bias may play a strong hand and any perceived fast lanes or running position advantage should be closely monitored.
Betting inside the last 30 seconds will also be an excellent guide, as the larger syndicates fill their orders.
Race 3 VRC Springtime Stakes
A high quality group of 3yo's assemble here with early speed from Yulong January and Sunset Watch.
The latter has the tactical speed to sit outside the lead or take cover just in behind and will be in it for a long way.
Long Leaf, although drawn wide (gate 16), brings Coolmore Stud Stakes form and will have her chance to find a position considering there looks to be good speed engaged.
Best of the rest is Enbihaar, who will suck up along the rail all day long and not spend a cent.
Best Racing Tips
1st Sunset Watch
2nd Long Leaf
3rd Enbihaar
4th Yulong January
Race 4 Chatham Stakes
This looks a great race for Dollar For Dollar, who drops way down in grade following the last start 11 of 18 in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap and will race close to speed.
Others that will be prominent early are Perast and Dreamforce, who will ping the lids and be in it for a long way.
In a race where I expect the leaders to dictate, Mr Sneaky would be the best of the run-on profiles if the track was to play that way.
Best Racing Tips
1st Dollar For Dollar
2nd Perast
3rd Dreamforce
4th Mr Sneaky
Race 5 Queen Elizabeth Stakes
Gallic Chieftain will eat up the extra distance here following his last start 4 of 11 in the Lexus over 2,500m and will be given a very economical run from gate 1.
Midterm and Sully can find ideal midfield positions and be ready to pounce over the final 300m with likely leader Northwest Passage fit enough to take them deep into the straight.
Most speed maps have them crawling but don't be surprised if they run along, especially if there is a perceived advantage on-pace and against the rail.
Best Racing Tips
1st Gallic Chieftain
2nd Midterm
3rd Sully
4th Northwest Passage
Race 9 Grand Handicap
A great sprinting field has assembled here to round out the day for a dash down the famed Flemington straight.
There looks to be above average speed engaged, and pressure to take this up will be fierce.
Expect a few who can pounce late from midfield to hold the advantage and they include Ocean Deep and Revenire who will both stalk the speed and dart through over the final 50m.
Esperance and Order Of Command will be charging very late and can run home over the top if the leaders go warp speed.
Best Racing Tips
1st Ocean Deep
2nd Revenire
3rd Esperance
4th Order Of Command
