8/10/19 Caulfield Races: Thousand Guineas Final Field & Tips 2019

The Thousand Guineas is the major race for three-year-old fillies, run at Caulfield over the Melbourne Spring Carnival.  

Notable winners of the Thousand Guineas include Atlantic Jewel (2011), Miss Finland (2006) and Alinghi (2004). 

The early favourite for the 2019 edition is Godolphin's Flit ($2.20).

The filly by Medaglia D'oro was luckless last start and while she ran 9 of 15, it could be argued that she could have won the race. 

Stablemate Lyre is on the second line of betting. This filly by Lonhro won the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes at this track earlier this year and has drawn to get the perfect run in the race.

With a record of five starts, two wins and a placing, she is one of only four runners who have notched up a win around the challenging Caulfield track.

Thousand Guineas Race Tip: Lyre $6.50

Drawn barrier three, she looks likely to sit outside stablemate Flit in the run and should get first crack at the leaders on turning for home. 

It wouldn't surprise to see Flit receive another luckless run from barrier two and given her racing pattern, she's a risk at the short quote. 

Lyre's last start seventh in Thousand Guineas Prelude was solid. She lacked the dash to win, but it was a run that indicated she'll relish the 1600m and was enough to suggest she's a winning chance here. 

She is the only runner in the field with a Group One victory to their name and if she brings her A-game to the track, she'll give this a huge shake. 

The gap in the market between her and Flit looks far too wide and at the value, Lyre looks the best bet in this year's Thousand Guineas.
