Metro racing heads back to Murray Bridge this week, and it’s shaping up as an extremely competitive and tricky program.

The rail will be in the True position, but with a scorching top of 41 degrees expected, conditions will be challenging.

Best Bets for Murray Bridge by Heath Pope

Race 1 #2 – Russian Dancer $3.70

Russian Dancer, trained by Phillip Stokes, might seem underwhelming on paper, failing to beat home a runner in both starts this preparation.

However, he’s been contesting unsuitable races, and his efforts have been much better than the form initially suggests.

This 5YO has ratings that indicate he’s a clear grade above this field at his best, and he couldn’t be better placed here.

Rising to his preferred trip (8:4-2-1) and with a terrific third-up record (3:2-0-0), he profiles as the day’s sharp improver.

The blinkers go back on, and he maps to settle much closer in a race with minimal early pressure.

With a senior rider returning to the saddle, all signs point to Russian Dancer being primed for a big performance.

He’s a keen play to kick off the day.

Race 2 #6 – Teardrop Rotation $6.50

This filly is still learning her craft, but when the penny drops, the stable looks to have a more-than-handy type on their hands.

She broke her maiden when resuming and has since produced two eye-catching runs, despite doing plenty wrong in her races.

Here, she drops back to a very similar grade but benefits from just 53kg after the claim.

The spacious Murray Bridge layout should suit her running style perfectly.

If she runs straight and enjoys just even luck, she’ll be tough to hold out late.
