Value Galore at Headquarters
Flemington plays host to G3 Standish Handicap day, with the feature event on the program to be run down the 1200m straight.
The track is currently rated a good 4 and with fine weather predicted, participants will be met with a dry racing surface.
The rail is +9m the entire circuit and at this set-up expect horses in the straight races to angle towards the middle of the track.
Leaders will be advantaged in all races with a bend.
Caulfield Tips from TheMelbourneMail
Flemington Race 5 Tip #9 Here To Shock $6.50
This horse was very well supported first up at Sandown over 1300m, off the back of some serious stable confidence.
He got stuck in a terrible position from the get go when he was wide and rearward.
Consequently he was forced to be the widest runner on the turn and struggled to bridge the gap to the eventual winner.
He flew home through the line, albeit from an impossible winning position, and ran his last 400m sectional 3 lengths quicker than standard time.
Second up here and fitter, he finds a smaller field which will help his cause in crossing from the widest draw to take up a spot on speed.
He is a previous second up winner and for a horse who has contested three Group One races last prep, he is extremely well weighted with 54kg.
Looks way over the odds for mine, and can even be an each way play at the current price.
Flemington Race 6 Tip #5 Toff Choice $12.00
Angling for value in this BM70 over the 1400m, with Toff Choice who ran much better than his $101 price tag indicated last start down the straight.
He got a mile back in running, settling close to last behind a tempo which was solid for the first half of the race.
It was always going to be very hard for a horse his odds to swoop past some talented gallopers including Pioneer River, and Kentucky Casanova who ran third and has since won midweek.
He finished off through the line very well, running 7.6 lengths quicker than standard time for his last 400m sectional, which is ultra impressive seeing that the tempo was strong!
Second up here, and coming to 1400m suits, although I still want to see him get to the mile to be a very strong winning chance.
In saying that, I still believe he is a great each way chance here. Gets the claim for Will Price, and is drawn perfectly in barrier one so he can sit handy to the speed.
His stats show that he is likely better on wet tracks, but after running very well here on a good 3 last time I am willing to give him a chance.
