Zammit beats Pros to the summit
What a week it was for Pro punters who post their tips at theGreatTipOff.com. The Pros dominated up the top end of the leaderboard for most profit, filling 7 of the top 10 spots on the weekly leaderboard.
But as good as all these Pros were, none of them could catch the Daily Telegraph's Steve Zammit.
Zammit flew the flag high for the media tipsters this week. He was the only person to crack the $5k cash profit barrier, calculated from $100 bets placed on each selection.
His 63 tips posted over the seven day period yielded a giant 88% profit on turnover (POT), thanks to his ability to find a winner at a good price.
To tip 17 winners (as Zammit did) at an average winning price of $6.86 is nothing short of special. And a big part of this success was the roughie that Steve Zammit found for his followers on Australia Day.
In race 8 at Randwick, Zammit stuck his neck out, tipping the 80/1 shot Brazen. The horse's name is fitting, as this bold selection earnt Zammit the kudos of his colleagues, and respect from punters who are always looking out for a huge long shot with some ticker.
That effort gives the Daily Telegraph racing journo a cracking 31% POT over the past 90 days.
Behind Zammit in first place, Pro punters filled every spot from 2nd down to 7th. The best of this mob once again was Sporty.
Readers of this column will know that this ex-jockey from the Gold Coast featured in last week's Tipster of the Week article with more than three grand in profit.
Sporty repeated the dose and some, with just shy of four grand this week, highlighting that he is the undoubted form tipster around. The Gold Coast pro punter steered his followers into no less than 122 winning tips over the past seven days, at a super-impressive strike rate of 35%.
Another Pro who gets a mention for his solid numbers is DEEPSPUNTA18, whose tips has him ending the week with two grand in profit. This all-round sports fan from WA was another who made value the aim of his game.
DEEPSPUNTA18's 14 winners came at healthy average winning price of $6. A statistic that is very popular with punters who are often most appreciative of analysts who find them at a price.
One of the other media experts who acquitted herself nicely was Nadia Horne. The RSN presenter and self-described "Italian Greyhound lover" had no trouble at all picking horses that saluted first this week.
Horne picked 9 winners in all, finding $1,600 for her followers who doubled up their stake on her best bets. But the most impressive stat was Horne's Profit on Turnover, which under Actual Stake finished up at 99%.
Horne ended the week with five profitable tipping days in a row to prove she is truly on a roll.
Finally, we must give a shout-out to Tony Brassel, who showed a tidy profit when staking up on his best bets.
"Bras" managed to find $2,810 in cash profit doubling-up on his bets bets, a miraculous effort when you consider how many races he has to study each week. It also tells punters where they should focus when following Tony on race day.
