A cracking field has assembled for the Group 1 Metropolitan at Randwick this Saturday.
The Chris Waller trained Durston has opened favourite and is looking to make it 3 wins in a row after winning the Wyong & Newcastle Cups.
The Randwick track is currently rated a Soft 7 with the rail out 3m the entire circuit.
With plenty of rain predicted we are likely to be racing on a Heavy surface.
The best going looks likely to be between lanes 2-8 in the straight.
The Map
There looks to be moderate speed engaged.
Grove Ferry (11) and Sacramento (9) will lead them up at what I'd expect to be a moderate clip given they are stables mates.
Kukeracha (1) and No Compromise (5) can both hold a position from their good draws and are expected to sit off the two leaders.
Stockman (4) can take up a midfield position from the good draw.
Of the others, Durston (8) looks likely to settle beyond midfield.
The Favourite
Durston ($3.60) went to a new level last start.
His win was very impressive as he relished every bit of the 2300m, running the 2nd fastest last 200m of the meeting.
He loses James McDonald for this assignment which is of some concern, but the horse is flying and is ready to win.
Analysis and Tips
I'm with Grove Ferry with the lightweight and on the 7-day backup.
He's rock-hard fit, maps to control the tempo and was very good last Saturday.
This is a solid rise in grade but with the fitness edge and weight relief on a heavy track, he'll give you a huge sight.
Durston was enormous last start and if Kerrin McEvoy produces a well-timed ride, he should win.
Stockman relishes rain-affected going and wants 2400m. He's drawn really well and is a big player.
Of the others, Le Deon De Vie could easily fight out the finish.
1st Grove Ferry $8.50
2nd Durston $3.50
3rd Stockman $6.00
4th Le Deon De Vie $4.40
