While there is always an element of luck when punting on horses, the tipsters at the top of the Cash Profit leaderboard over the past week have consistently shown that tipping winners involves something much more.
Popular value punter LuckyStar, who over the last seven days has amassed $4,640 in profit from $100 bets, made the biggest haul.
LuckyStar's 11 winners got home at average odds of $11.13 and at a strike rate of 11%. These stats indicate that while LuckyStar doesn't tip winners as frequently as some, he certainly makes them count.
LuckyStar has always gone for the roughies, and it's more than luck that he owes to his success. Showing 6 profitable days from the last 8, as well as more than five grand in profit over the past 30 days, the home work is paying off for him and his followers.
The second highest profit maker made just shy of four grand and it came from one of the most respected names in racing, Ray Thomas. The Daily Telegraph's senior racing journalist had an incredible seven days, finding 24 winners from 100 tips, to deliver his followers a very impressive 40% profit on turnover (POT).
That effort rates even higher when you consider the editorial deadlines facing Thomas in his role, which sees him forgo valuable race day knowledge to submit his tips as far out as 72 hours before race time.
Taking the bronze medal for most profit this week was pro punter Formulator, who racked up $3,140 from a $100 bet on his single winning tip, I Dream of Green at the Gold Coast on Saturday, which saluted at whopping odds of $38.40.
Not too exciting on that information alone. But when you stack that winner on top of the other 721 that he has tipped over the past 5 years you soon realise this Melbournian is a very sharp punter. Since placing his first tip on the site back in 2012 Formulator has made a staggering $26,490 in profit from $100 win bets. There is really no doubt that this bloke is one of the best in the land.
Another standout performer to mention is Paul Kelly from the iconic Winning Post, Australia's best selling racing magazine.
This is only the second week Kelly's tips have been recorded here on theGreatTipOff.com. And he is very much making his mark as the new kid on the block, tipping 7 winners at an average winning price of $5.64. At a strike rate of 41% and a highly impressive POT of 132%, Kelly looks like a tipster to follow through the Spring.
