This week early money has again shaped markets at both key venues, with a number of strong moves forcing the hand of bookmakers.
At Sandown, a Patrick Payne stayer on the rise has not been missed by the early money.
Whilst at Randwick the big betting stables of Pride and O’Shea appear to be setting up a number of runners for big performances.
Jakayan
The Patrick Payne stable is simply flying and presents their smart 4yo mare here who has been ultra-dominant winning her past 3.
From the wide draw (gate 13) they can slot into the moving line, for an ideal passage throughout- midfield with cover.
She strikes a moderate race that lacks depth and if she holds form it will take a very good run to beat her here.
Esta La Roca
Has a touch of quality and did enough here first up over this distance to suggest she is in for a good preparation.
She has tactical speed and can choose to lead or sit just off them.
Fitter now and in the small field here, she will look to carve across and sit on-pace, if not lead.
Historically she has raced in much stronger fields and looks perfectly placed to be winning this.
Mutamanni
Waller import that needs some luck as an emergency to make the field, however the market is very wary of him.
He was heavily backed ($9 into $5 late) here at his Australian debut and won accordingly over 1400m.
Now out to 1600m, he could be even more suited and if he makes the field he could start much shorter.
Normandy Bridge
Simply brained them all here last time out and does have the outstanding “Globe form” from two starts back.
It is interesting they stay at the 1800m trip as he looked likely to eat up further, however maybe it suggests they are taking all care to progress him properly.
He is a gun stayer on the rise and could be put away after this run for the bigger Spring targets.
Lekvarte
The ownership group of BK Racing love to set them up for a bet, and for that reason have them with the best in the business (Widdup and Pride) for these purposes.
There did appear to be a soft run put in last start at Rosehill when she was slowly away- possibly to achieve the price this start and bet.
Look for there to be much more intent shown on this occasion and she should be going close.
Steely
Had favours last start when enjoyed the perfect trail and presented as the winner before just missing over 1400m.
He is crying out for 1600m and looks well-suited here, especially coming out of the fast run race last time out.
From gate 9 they should be looking to slot in no worse than midfield with cover, before peeling to rush at them late.
Wewillrock
Kiwi import for O’Shea who comes straight out of the good Devils Throat form race at Rosehill where not far (0.3 Lengths) off the winner.
With the lightweight (53kg) and tactical speed, he should be leading from gate 2 here, and prove very hard to run past.
This is another big betting yard and if the money continues I would suggest he should be winning.
Crafty Eagle
Won well here last start in the Midway and is now straight to a genuine Benchmark 78 grade, which shows good confidence.
He was enormous last start after being trapped wide without cover, yet still far too strong at the end.
With the good draw (gate 2) here, he has no transit issues this time out and clearly can improve again.
