The Winter Carnival featured during the punting month of May with the big race meetings rolling out in Brisbane, on the Sunshine Coast and in Adelaide. Typically, punters can find this time of year one of the more challenging periods on the punt given some peculiar factors like:

• assessing races on tracks that they are less familiar with;
• horses meeting in races at different ends of their preparations; and
• the predictability issues associated with some of the Brisbane tracks at present.

In spite of these challenges the overall population of professional punters, Australia's expert racing media and punters having a go in May, faired very well.
