Wednesday racing around the country sees quality horses getting into their Winter campaigns.
Cody Lane and Rick Morris have singled out their best plays for the day.
See who they like and why.
Bendigo Race 2 #5 Legio $5.00
Handy type resuming here off a gelding operation.
He's had 3 jump outs leading in to this, winning one when being pushed out and cruising to the line in the other two.
1100m might be a touch short of his best distance but he gets the race run to suit here. With a quick tempo expected, look for him to settle just off the pace in midfield from barrier 6.
Last preparation, he ran 2nd to the handy 'Calico Jack' at Cranbourne first-up. That runner went on to win again at its next start, before going to Hawkesbury and breaking his maiden.
Furthermore, he had form behind Group 2 & 3 winners 'Berkeley Square' and 'Elliptical' in his first preparation.
He gets Jordan Childs aboard, who has been in great form recently with 17 winners from his last 100 rides. Trainer James Cummings is also having a good run, with 18 winners from his last 100 runners.
Cummings goes very well at Bendigo (20% winning strike rate) and can add to that with this 3YO Exosphere gelding.
Ipswich Race 5 #2 Makedon $2.30
I'm conscious of the expected rain affected surface at Ipswich today, given this gelding's last victory came in heavy going.
He led all the way in that clash, which was also in Class 3 grade meaning he gets a very similar set-up here.
Last start, he led them up in a BM75 in Saturday grade and finished only 3.6 lengths off them.
The claim from apprentice Mignonette Kennedy gets him down to 56kgs, and from a good gate he can take up the running.
He will be in this up to his neck and with a few of these likely to struggle in the going, expect him to keep them at bay.
