Ballarat is the venue for midweek racing in Melbourne this Wednesday, with a strong eight-race card giving punters plenty to ponder.
With 10-20mm of rain predicted, a track downgrade from a Soft 5 to heavy track looks likely.
The rail is in the true position the entire circuit, which should ensure the track plays fair for all runners.

Ballarat Race 8 Tip #13 Persan $3.50
I really like the chances of Persan to make it back-to-back wins here.
This son of Pierro is coming off a nice maiden win at Bendigo over the mile. He sat just ahead of midfield in that hit-out, before getting into the clear at the top of the straight and knuckling down well to get the job done.
That win was second-up in heavy going, and runner-up Old Head has since franked that form by saluting on Sunday.
This colt looks to be very well suited around this grade in Victoria.
Although he's only tasted victory once in 11 career starts, most of his runs have been in Listed and Group company in NSW. This includes two Group 1 clashes, where he finished behind Castelvecchio and Shadow Hero.
The stable clearly has a high opinion of this horse, given he's been competing at that level in the early stages of his career.
He sticks at the mile distance for this assignment, and he would've taken some much needed confidence from that win.
He also draws well again in barrier four and faces a field with limited ability.
I expect him to go on to bigger and better things and finally live up to stable expectations.

Ballarat Race 1 Tip #17 Koko Connection $16.00
This two-year-old didn't show much last preparation, however she looks to have improved off a spell.
She has not been overly tested in both jump-outs this time in, but appears to be travelling well within herself and looks set to fly here first-up.
At the jump-outs she went to the line close-up with Out of Isolation, who went on to produce a strong debut performance in town to finish second.
Drawn barrier 13 here, look for the filly to find herself beyond midfield before doing her best work late.
At the $16 quote, she's a good each-way chance.
