Randwick plays host to a superb nine race card this Saturday, which includes the second running of the Silver Eagle.
The highlight of the afternoon is the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes for the three-year-old's, which is often a stepping stone for those who have Victoria Derby aspirations.
As the Everest carnival rolls on, I preview the feature clashes to pick out my top selections.
The Randwick track is currently rated a Good 4 and although there are some light showers forecast in the lead up to Saturday, don't expect conditions to deteriorate.
The rail is out 4m from the 1600-2000m and 6m for the remainder of the circuit.
At this set-up, expect the majority of winners to come from on-pace or midfield positions.
The Map
Although there are only nine runners in this race, it looks to have some solid speed on paper.
How Womantic (3) will stroll forward and I expect Alligator Blood (5) to settle in behind the leaders.
Look for Chat (6) to join How Womantic at the front, whilst Surreal Step (7) and Dawn Passage (9) will apply early pressure and look for a spot around Alligator Blood.
Flit (8) will settle midfield or worse, along with Icebath (2). That leaves Subponaed (4), who will likely settle at the rear.
The Favourite
Alligator Blood opened the $2.30 favourite and is now into $1.85 following the scratching of Criaderas.
His only run this preparation was solid, coming from the back of the field at Doomben to finish 1.1-length 3rd with 61kg on his back.
He is going to get an ideal spot off the rails in this clash. Although it's been a month between runs, this formula has proven successful in the past as demonstrated by his unbeaten second-up record (3:3-0-0).
The only factor that puts some doubt in my mind is that this is his semi-final, with the team priming the gelding for the Golden Eagle.
Analysis and Tips
There are no prizes here, but I can't go past Alligator Blood ($1.85).
I think we are going to see something similar to what Rothfire did, with the Queenslander coming down and making a mockery of the Sydney horses.
Dawn Passage ($4.80) looks his only danger. His superb first-up record (3:2-1-0) has him in this race so if you're not one to play the shorts, it looks the likely quinella.
The Map
This year's edition of the Spring Champion Stakes has turned into an absolute cracker due to the barrier draws.
Joint early favourite Love Tap (14) drew poorly and will have no option but to head to the front. Lion's Roar (7) will roll forward, with Street Dancer (15) likely to follow Love Tap across and sit handy.
Expect Bucharest (3) to settle one pair back along with Montefilia (1) and Cherry Tortoni (4).
The other horses face the challenge of sorting themselves out midfield and worse, but I suspect that Choir (2), Favreau (12) and Socrates (5) will settle at the rear of the field.
The Favourite
Montefilia has been backed into early favouritism due to her soft draw and looks to build on last week's Flight Stakes victory.
Her run was timed to perfection by Bowman last week, when mowing down the short priced favourite Hungry Heart.
The gun filly just keeps rising to each new challenge put in front of her, and all signs point to her relishing the 2000m.
However, my two concerns are the jockey switch to Jason Collett and the unfavourable speed map which may see her locked up on the rail on turning for home.
Analysis and Tips
I think Favreau ($23.00) is over the odds in a race full of winning chances.
I thought his run in the Gloaming had plenty of merit, finishing 2.1 lengths off winner Love Tap.
The gelding's late sectionals were brilliant in that clash, running the quickest last 600m of the race in 34.31.
Look for him to be hitting the line from well back and if he they decide to roll the dice and try to slot in closer, he will become a major factor.
He could very well become the Derby favourite with a win here.
