The Moroney trained Bermadez looks the standout on a tough Flemington card.
He started the campaign off with back to back wins, one being over this track and distance during Cup week.
The form out of that race has stacked up and been a solid reference for this grade.
He has had a 5 week break leading into his third up assignment where he ran gallantly behind the in the form Lighthouse.
She is now favourite for the Stakes race on the same card.
The sticky gate will be offset by the fact Oliver has a great association with him, and the fact he is versatile.
Olly will get him into comfortable position dictated by how he jumps with the rest.
This campaign has seen him mature mentally and now at his peak fitness 4th up, and a terrific placement. He looks a great bet to kick off the new year.
Flemington Race 5 Tip #2 Bermadez $2.00
Exciting galloper who his astute trainer Mike Moroney has a big opinion of.
His attempt at a winning hat-trick this campaign came unstuck at the hands of another potential top-liner Lighthouse when second to her at this track.
At his previous start he won the Country Final over 1600m at Flemington where he sat wide and proved a class above his opposition.
Damien Oliver stays with him and he should prove too good for his opposition.
Ascot Race 6 Tip #6 Miss Conteki $3.00
Miss Conteki has built an imposing record with 7 wins from just 11 career starts.
When last seen she was beaten by a small margin by Hot Zed who went on to win a listed race on Railway Stakes day.
Miss Conteki thrives over the Ascot 1000m and she flies fresh. I like the addition of the nose roll added since her last outing.
Mervyn will go fast and string the field out. From the good barrier Miss Conteki will be able to get some cover in the chasing group and use her powerful turn of foot in the run home.
Much respect to The Front Bar who moves over East after this race but I'm siding with Miss Conteki after the barrier and settling a bit handier in the run.
