The final month of the 2018 was dominated by professional punters, as a handful of sharp shooters rounded off the year with some exceptional profits to take the honours in December.
As usual we assessed punters and Australia's racing media on profit as a percentage of turnover and their cash profit using an even stake. We reveal the top three in each of these categories below.
Four punters shared the 3 top spots in each category, with two punters featuring as place getters twice.
SaturdayStandOuts was by far the punter's favourite in December. With all his winners coming in at double figure odds he could be mistaken for the chubby man in the red suit with the long white beard.
His highest paying collect was Crossley HotShot at Pinjara earlier in the month, saluting at $69.80 best tote.
All-up the Queenslander placed 56 tips for a massive 146% profit on turnover (POT). Which means he almost profited $1.50 for every $1 bet.
While still posting a profit that any punter would be proud of, EvilMonkey was a distant second with 66% POT from his 126 tips in December. Proving that it isn't a dose of year end luck, his stats over the past 3 months show an impressive 38% POT from 208 tips.
The second runner-up was another Queenslander who goes by BandBTips. This punter from Queensland's tropical far north produced two solid stats that are key indicators of successful punting.
Four of Australia's racing media made it into the the Top 10.
The best performer from that group was NSW country race caller from Sky Racing Anthony Manton who finished in sixth place posting 52% POT from 51 tips.
Next came:
These outstanding profit percentages from EvilMonkey and SaturdayStandOuts translated into big cash profits for their followers, and gave these two pro punters the second and third highest cash profits respectively in December.
But punters earned the most cash in December from Gold Coast punter Sporty. A name that visitors to theGreatTipOff.com have seen in the winners circle since 2009, Sporty delivered yet another flurry of winners to top the list.
Averaging 16 tips per day he finished the month with a profit of $8,705 from $100 win bets.
Finishing just outside the place getters in fourth spot was popular racing personality Tony Brassel.
Tony is one of the hardest working racing form analysts in the country, set the gruelling task of assessing four race meetings on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays each week for national racing broadcaster.
Despite the mountain of form he had to get through in December, Brassel managed to produce $6,820 profit from $100 win bets from his selections.
Another fitting reward for his followers who get the good oil from Tony at Sky Racing.
