The Rosehill Guineas is a Group One race for three-year-olds, held on Golden Slipper day. It is one of the five Group Ones held on Golden Slipper day, on what is the biggest day of racing during the Autumn Carnival.

While it might not be the Group One with the biggest prize purse on the day, the Rosehill Guineas is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating events on the day. That's because it forms the middle leg of the Australian Triple Crown.

It is preceded by the Randwick Guineas, which is run over 1,600 metres, and followed by the Australian Derby, contested over 2,400 metres, both at Randwick Racecourse. There have only ever been five winners of the Australian Triple Crown, the last being It's a Dundeel, who won all three races in 2013.

As well as being part of the Triple Crown, the Rosehill Guineas is a fantatsic race in its own right. It has seen some undisputed champions of the turf claim victory. This prestigious list includes Amounis, Phar Lap, Kingston Town an Octagonal.

From a betting perspective, the Rosehill Guineas is a race where the good horses tend to prevail. In the past ten years, only one winner has started in double figure odds. That was Criterion in 2014, who went on to have an outstanding racing career.

The race record stands at 1:59:99. What's interesting about this was that Danewin posted that time in 1995 before Octagonal came out and matched it exactly in 1996. No horse has run sub-two minutes since.
