Blackbook These 2 Runners

A few standout performances caught the eye across Saturday’s racing.

Some gallopers were unlucky in running, and others producing efforts full of merit under tough conditions.

Mick Gannon has locked in two blackbookers to follow with confidence in the coming weeks.

Both horses look ready to win with the right set-up next start.

Mick is keen on two runners who look set to go bang next time out.

Race 2 – Callistemon

Callistemon was set a huge task last start, finding restricted room for much of the straight before finally seeing daylight late.

When clear, she rocketed home, running the 10th fastest last 100m of the day, and was beaten just 1.2 lengths.

With even luck and a slight rise in trip next time out, she looks poised to go very close to a win.

Put her straight into your blackbook.

Race 8 – South Of India

South Of India stepped sharply up in grade, tackling the Listed Bob Charley Stakes.

Although he was well in at the weights, his 4th placing was full of merit against seasoned opposition.

This is a horse who thrives when allowed to roll at a strong tempo and break the field up.

On this occasion, the speed wasn’t as quick as he prefers.

If the speed had been faster, he may have gone close to winning.

Expect him to strip fitter second-up, and next time he gets control up front, watch for a big bounce-back performance.
